IFJ urges unity among Bahraini journalists

IFJ urges unity among Bahraini journalists
Brussels, March 6 (BNA)--A call has gone out by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to all Bahraini journalists to keep united and steer clear of political tensions. The federation, which represents more than 600,000 journalists worldwide, made the appeal after protesters in Bahrain blacklisted some Bahraini journalists for allegedly being biased.
" We urge Bahraini journalists not to target one another and hold on to the ethics of independent journalism," IFJ Secretary General Eden White said stressing that blacklisting professional journalists and Editors-in-Chief to attain political goals is unacceptable. He also warned of divisions among journalists saying that this would hamper development of the media sector.

"Freedom of press is a pre-requisite to build democracy and should make part of political reforms in Bahrain," he added asserting that journalists can defend their interests when united and not by attacking one another. "Differences must be solved through solidarity and mutual respect," he affirmed.
