PFUJ condemns manhandling of Dunya News correspondent

ISLAMABAD, March 16: -
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned torture, maltreatment and snatching of camera and motorcycle from a Dunya News correspondent and secretary of Teshil Pindadan Khan Press Club, Mohammad Ramzan Khokar by the Project Manger of PMDC SALT MINES KHEWRA, IRFAN SHAH and his accomplices Security Gaurd Tauqeer etc.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the PFUJ said that Ramazan was making a documentary over an incident in the salt reserves when he was allegedly manhandled, physically attacked by the security guards Tauqeer etc, at the instance of project manager Irfan Shah , Project Manager PMDC Salt Mines Khewra.

They severely thrashed Dunya News Correspondent, and also snatched his camera as well as motorcycle when was preparing a documentary about the sorry state of affairs of the "Asthama Salt Hospital".

Ramzan reported the incident to the area police, but no action has yet been taken by the police.

Sharply reacting over this incident, the PFUJ said that preventing media persons from discharging their professional assignments is a serious crime and it is against fundamental rights as envisaged under the Constitution of Pakistan, universal charter of human rights as well as freedom of press.

The PFUJ demanded of the Fedral Minister of Petrolium and Natural resources & Prime Minster and other high-ups of the province to take notice of this incident and order registration of a case against those responsible for the incident.

The PFUJ also demanded immediate arrest of all those responsible for manhandling of the newsman and torturing him and snatching his camera and motorcycle.
