Khurshid Shah for implementation of wage-board award

ISLAMABAD, April 13 (APP): Amidst thumping applaud from both sides of aisle in the National Assembly, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah on Wednesday called upon the owners of private media groups to implement wage board award and give due rights to their workers.Speaking in the National Assembly he said that hundreds of employees are working in private media organizations but they are not being paid accordingly. The minister said that a private TV channel was defaulter of Rs. 1.6 billion tax and the group was paying salaries to its workers from interest being generated from the same amount.
“The TV channels always criticize politicians for corruption and malpractices on one hand and also preach for upholding the constitution. But on the other hand, the owners of media groups had obtained stay-orders from the court against implementation of wage board and were denying the rights to the workers of their organizations,” he added.
He said the media owners should respect the rights of their workers who are suffering due to their low wages.
Responding to the concerns showed by the Leader of Opposition in National Assembly regarding various issues, he said the government had always placed all issues of national interest before the House for a debate adding that the role of Opposition was very important in this regard.
Referring to the problem of electricity loadshedding, he said despite the fact that the government had inherited the power crisis, it had added 2,000 MW in national grid. He said the demand of the electricity was also growing due to increasing population.
